NYC Public Schools Family Child Care Network Project
The Early Childhood Career Development Center is working with NYC Public Schools to support affiliated family childcare providers serving 3-K to complete their CDA.
Full Financial Assistance
The DECE will be providing full financial assistance for providers who enroll in the CDA Completion Program at New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute (offered in both English and Spanish).
- Includes Application/Exam fee, competency book, and supplies. International degree/diploma evaluation and translation fee will also be covered. Participants will be issued a two-way MTA card for on-site visits to the College or the Career Center.
Who should apply?
Providers who have completed 120 hours of CDA Coursework but needs support with completing the CDA Portfolio, registering for the written exam, finding a PD Specialist, and submitting the CDA Application.

Sheridan Povemba
Sheridan Povemba has been assisting early childhood educators in receiving their CDA Credential for over 20 years. She first became involved with the CDA Credential when she was a Center Director and asked to train her staff around the CDA Competency Areas. Since that time Sheridan has continued her CDA work creating a 120-hour CDA curriculum, teaching college level CDA courses, as a CDA PD Specialist, and most recently for CUNY PDI as a Credentialing Specialist. In her role for CUNY PDI Sheridan facilitates the CDA Completion Program as well as providing individual student advisement. In addition to her work with the CDA Credential Sheridan is the NYS Pyramid Model Co-Coordinator.

- Rescheduling, cancellations and missed appointments: If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please do so by going into your calendar and following the links to either cancel or reschedule. If you miss three appointments without giving your advisor prior notice, you'll no longer have access to the Acuity scheduling system. You'll need to request an appointment by emailing your advisor, who will determine availability based on their schedule.
- Please do not book more than one time slot for your appointment, which limits availability for other clients. "Holding" multiple time slots may result in your appointment being canceled or your email being blocked from the Acuity Scheduling system.
FAQ
➔ When does the next cohort start?
The next cohort will start August 14, 2023.
The following cohort will start September 12, 2023.
➔ Can I get support if I have to renew my CDA Credential?
Yes. After meeting with an Institute Advisor, please reach out to Sheridan Povemba, the CDA Credential Specialist for support.
➔ What if my CDA Credential has expired?
Unfortunately, you will have to re-apply for the CDA Credential if it has expired. Your CDA coursework does not expire. However, all the rest will have to be completed and submitted again. Please schedule a meeting with one of our advisors for support.
➔ Can I take classes online?
Yes. Classes will be taken virtually via Zoom. Classes will be held synchronously with set days and times.
➔ How long does it take?
Group sessions run for 6 weeks and participants can meet 1:1 as needed by appointment.
➔ I am done with my Portfolio. Can I just meet 1:1 with the Credential Specialist without attending group sessions?
Yes. You should still review your portfolio with the Credential Specialist to make sure you have completed all required components.
➔ By when do I have to obtain the CDA Credential?
For this Project, you will be required to hold a CDA Credential by June 2025.
